A disk shops no longer sell
Floppies demagnetise, go mouldy and stretch. The shutter looks grey, the disk squeaks in the drive, Windows says “not formatted”. Often the magnetic surface is still readable with different calibration, not with a laptop USB drive that expects a perfect 1.44 MB disk.
Do not tape the shutter shut so the surface sticks. Do not store disks on a speaker or a phone. Bring the box as it is - we list which disks still answer.
If the disk is the only copy of 1990s work, do not “try it in three computers”. Every bad drive can score the surface.
